HIPSO provides members with Federal protection of Patient Safety Work Product [PSWP] in a Patient Safety Evaluation System [PSES], which is a privileged and confidential environment.
Reported medical errors, near misses, and unsafe conditions become Patient Safety Work Product when reported to HIPSO.
HIPSO will identify clinical trends that cause medical errors and will aid healthcare providers to develop best practices to improve outcomes. Members may utilize the data to generate internal reports for use in Quality, Patient Safety, and Performance Improvement activities, including benchmarking.
HIPSO provides qualified staff to work collaboratively with members to reduce medical errors through a variety of patient safety activities.
What People are Saying
“The new PSO process is great for our organization. It allows our staff easy access when completing the required information immediately after an event when the surrounding information is still ‘fresh’ to them.”
DFC, Risk Manager
“The new system (PSO) is a great asset to our organization. The nurses like it so much better to be able to click a button and file the information electronically.”
SS, Director of Nursing
“Our staff finds it so easy to use and having the (forms) on their “workstation on wheels” makes it convenient. They no longer are searching for a long form that was so intimidating.”
SS, QA Manager
“The online reporting of patient events was a great decision for us. Reporting has increased which has allowed process improvement.” EO
"It’s great to have the Federal and State protection for our quality assurance processes through HIPSO, especially since our state’s QA (statute) is under attack daily.” CN, Nursing Administration Assistant
“HIPSO has provided the opportunity for expedited communication of events. Since joining (HIPSO) we have had an increase because of the ease of using the system by our busy nurses. The data is electronically made available to the Risk manager in ‘real time’ allowing for safety issues to be addressed in a more timely manner.”
